You can get around Brunei by bus, hired
car or taxi. If you are visiting around the capital city, then public
buses are reliable and cheap. The bus service runs from 6 am to 6 pm.
It is easy to catch buses plying the main highway between Bandar Seri
Begawan and Kuala Belait.
However, should you wish to check out the
hinterland, then a hired car would be the best and least expensive option.
Tour packages are pricey and taxis are exorbitant.
You can always hitchhike though. Hitchhiking
in Brunei is a novelty so your chances of getting a lift are good. However,
cars are not likely to stop for you along the main highway. While Brunei
is generally a safe place to tour, yet hitchhiking can never be 100% safe
anywhere in the world. Use that only if you do not have a choice. Try
not to hitchhike alone though.
Alternatively, you may travel by boat.
There are regular boats connecting Bangar in the Temburong district with
Bandar Seri Begawan. While in Temburong, taxis are the only means of transport.
