Taiwan - Overview
Taiwan is an island nation of about 36,000 square kilometers located off the coast of southeastern China, southwest of Okinawa and north of the Philippines. The island is governed by the Republic of China. Shaped roughly like a sweet potato, the nation is home to more than 23 million people.
Be amazed at the many wonders of Taiwan - majestic peaks, rolling hills and plains, basins, coastlines, and many more. Taiwan enjoys a variety of climates: tropical, sub-tropical and temperate, providing clear distinction between the different seasons. There are about 18,400 species of wildlife on the island, out of which 20% belong to endangered species.
The government has established 7 national parks and 13 national scenic areas to preserve Taiwan's best natural ecological environment and cultural sites.Take a ride on the Alishan train, a mountain railway and experience the breathtaking sunrise and sea of clouds or just hike up to the summit of Northeast Asia's highest peak, Jade Mountain.
